Annual American Psychiatric Association (APA) Meeting in San Francisco!

CHA at APA
Psychiatry residents, faculty, and alumni had a strong presence at this year’s American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting, showcasing the breadth of scholarship and educational leadership within our department. PGY-2 resident Omar Hamza presented a poster exploring whether GLP-1 receptor agonists could serve as a first-line treatment option for patients with co-occurring alcohol use disorder and major depressive disorder, while PGY-4 resident Jeff Lam and PGY-3 resident Veri Seo were selected to present at the APA Colloquium for junior investigators. PGY-2 resident Jamie Baik’s poster on a systematic review of the relationship between cannabis legalization and psychosis was selected for the APA Press Session, highlighting her work to a broader national audience. Adult Psychiatry Training Director Will Schleyer presented a general session on catatonia, and former Department Chair and Residency Program Director Marshall Forstein led sessions on treatment termination due to illness or death and self-disclosure in psychotherapy. Alongside presenting and learning, our group enjoyed opportunities to connect with colleagues from around the country and bring back new ideas to advance psychiatric education, research, and patient care.  -Marcela Almeida, CHA Director of the Adult Psychiatry Residency Program and Harvard Medical School Assistant Professor
