The “Portraits in Primary Care” opening reception was held April 25, 2024 in the Healy Building Atrium at Cambridge Hospital. The event, sponsored by the CHA Center for Professional & Academic Development, features patient portraits by artist Dr. Lisa Rechtschaffen. Amid nibbles and live jazz, reception attendees had the opportunity to admire the 14 portraits, meet the artist as well as engage with portrait subjects.

The reception included remarks from Assaad Sayah, MD (President and CEO, CHA), Elizabeth Gaufberg, MD, MPH (Director, CHA Center for Professional and Academic Development, Yamini Saravanan, MD (Medical Director, Cambridge Primary Care Center) Bill Lahey (Chairman Board of Trustees, CHA), and Lisa Rechtschaffen, MD (Artist).

During remarks, turning towards Dr. Rechtschaffen, Bill Lahey said, “You art operates as a beautiful statement but also operates as a metaphor that you see your patients as individuals, you see their full story. You are part of their story and that is a beautiful aspiration for healthcare.”

Auscultations Journal and Gala

The Center for Professional and Academic Development periodically publishes the Auscultations Creative Arts Journal and hosts the Auscultations Gala.  The Gala serves as a ‘publication party’ for the journal – with an exhibit of employee art, live performances, and celebration.

Auscultation refers to the art of careful listening, as one might listen to a heartbeat through a stethoscope.  The Auscultations Journal provides an open forum for CHA employees to listen to one another, and to rejoice in the creative spirit of our community.
