The CHA Center for Professional and Academic Development is very pleased to be able to support tuition for up to four members of our credentialed medical or allied health staff to attend the Harvard Macy Institute (HMI) 2024 Program for Educators in Health Professions Course. In rare situations, we will consider an applicant who is not a credentialed medical or allied health staff member but whose project directly relates to the education of CHA learners (students, trainees, providers etc). Such individuals should notify us prior to applying. An academic appointment is not necessary for consideration.

Program Dates:

  • Fall session: October 7-11, 2024 (Virtual, 9-5 Mon-Fri)

  • Wednesday, November 13, 2024 (7-8pm)

  • Wednesday, December 11, 2024 (7-8pm)

  • Wednesday, January 15, 2025 (12-5pm)

  • Wednesday, February 12, 2025 (7-8pm)

  • Wednesday, March 12, 2025 (7-8pm)

  • Wednesday, April 9, 2025 (7-8pm)

  • Spring session: May 5 - 9, 2025 (in person in Boston, 9-5)

Please carefully review program details on the HMI Program for Educators webpage.  Participation is project-based, and the applicant’s institutional project must have full support of their department chief, service-line leader and/or senior leadership. Applicants must already have some form of institutional leadership role which allows them to implement their project. Furthermore, they must articulate how the program is likely to advance their overall career development at CHA.

We require a brief letter (½ page or less) of support from the Chief of your Department or their designee stating how attendance at this program will support your career development and commenting on the worthiness of your project. Please inform them of this requirement and ask them to email their letter to us at cpd@challiance.org by the application due date of Monday, May 6th at 5:00pm ET. Please give them sufficient notice to complete this task.

As the HMI Program has agreed to accept our internally selected candidates, we have an internal selection process which requires completing the following Google form by Monday, May 6th at 5:00pm ET. Submissions sent after the deadline will not be considered. Applications must be filled out in one sitting. Therefore, we recommend you type your answers in a Google Doc prior to submitting. Please make sure you adhere to any word counts listed. When you have your final answers ready, copy and paste into the sections and submit!

Center for Professional and Academic Development-funded HMI scholars will be expected to share their project accomplishments at the CHA-wide Poster session and may be asked to make a brief presentation with the CHA Academic Council. CHA Harvard Macy Scholars may also be asked to participate in next year’s review committee

Those not selected for CHA funding may still apply directly to the Harvard Macy Program and, if accepted, fund their own tuition in another manner.

If you are interested in speaking with a CHA colleague about their experience in the program, the following are recent graduates: John Ahern, Marcela Almeida, Kevin Coughlin, Michael Mullane, and Eleanor Emery.

Thank you,
Liz Gaufberg and Carolyn White
Center for Professional and Academic Development

The Harvard Macy Institute brings together health care professionals, educators, and leaders to discuss the critical challenges of the day and design innovative solutions that have a lasting impact on the way medicine is practiced and students are educated.

Each year, the CHA Academic Council and CHA Center for Professional Development support tuition for up to four members of the CHA credentialed medical staff to attend one of the Harvard Macy Institute Programs which can be previewed on the Harvard Macy Website. All credentialed members of the medical staff, including APC’s, are eligible to apply. An academic appointment is not necessary.

If you are interested in speaking to a colleague about the Harvard Macy Institute and its programs, please check out our list of CHA program awardees/graduates and please contact cpd@challiance.org with any questions!
